Say hello to…
…the Genesis Electrified GV70, an all-electric (as the name suggests) SUV to rival the BMW iX3. The official range is more than 280 miles on a full charge and Genesis offers one of the fastest maximum charge speeds on the market at 236kW. So if you can find a charge point that’ll deliver that level, super-fast public charging is possible. Genesis quotes a 10-80% charge in 18 minutes at that speed. Impressive stuff.
Genesis keeps things super-simple with the range offering a single trim level – Sport – with a few options packs.
As standard Sport trim level includes 19-inch alloys, 14.5-inch infotainment touchscreen, driving modes, powered leather seats and a host of safety systems.
Is The Genesis GV70 Suitable For My Fleet
Offering something different, yet genuinely premium, in this fiercely competitive sector is a great move and will appeal to fleet users. The range is good, there’s plenty of room inside and, more than anything else, the Electrified GV70 feels special.
The GV70 will happily take a family of four or five and the 500-litre boot is on a par with rival cars.
Real-world range is good. In warm weather we saw efficiency at 3.1 miles/kWh which, with a 74kW usable battery size, equates to 229 miles between charges. Particularly good, given how quick the GV70 is.
Leasing A Genesis GV70
Intelligent Car Leasing is offering the Electrified GV70 for £889 a month on a 3+36 contract including 20,000 miles a year. Maintenance costs better than average at £73 a month, according to Gensen Reports. As a comparison a BMW iX3 will cost around £80 a month for maintenance.
Driving A Genesis GV70
People mistake the GV70 (due to the Genesis badge on the bonnet) for a Bentley. During our test, more than one non-car person asked how the new small Bentley was.
The thing is, the interior of the GV70 is a luxury space. It may not quite be on a par with a Bentley, but it is definitely equal to or better than any of the more established premium brands.
The feel and materials of the cabin are impressive; in particular the huge, super-clear, infotainment screen. The seats are super comfy and supportive, while the digital dashboard and head-up display are clear and concise.
If there’s an issue with the interior design it’s the fact the gear selector and infotainment controller are both a similar size and shape and placed next to each other on the central divider. More than once we got these briefly muddled up. Live with the car and you’d probably develop the correct muscle-memory.
Driving the Electrified GV70 and two things dominate the experience. Firstly the GV70 is impressively refined and quiet – even by electric car standards. The cabin is a hushed place at all legal speeds.
The second point is the sheer pace of the car. With twin motors producing a total power not that far off 500hp and driving all four wheels, a 0-60mph time of 4.2 seconds is not that surprising. It’s also very accessible. Genesis provides a subtle ‘Boost’ button to achieve this figure, but in normal everyday driving you won’t need it, but it is fun.
Matching the refinement level is comfort from the suspension. Genesis has set up the GV70 well for the market. It’s not as sporty as its smaller sibling the GV60, but that’s absolutely fine. A little bodyroll in the corners just lets you know what’s going on.
The GV70 also allows drivers to opt for one-pedal driving with maximum regenerative braking. It works well and easy to use. However, in our car, which was almost brand new, the brakes themselves were a touch grabby at low speeds – making manoeuvering smoothly difficult. It’s something you’d expect to improve with a few more miles.
Overall, the Electrified GV70 is an impressive package and one company car drivers should strongly consider if they’re in the premium SUV market.
