Say hello to…
…the Skoda Elroq, the manufacturer’s entry in the now very hotly contested electric mid-size SUV segment. Like the Nissan Qashqai, which pioneered the format well before the proliferation of EVs, the Elroq aims to be all things to as many people as possible. It does that rather well, particularly if you go for one of the upper trim levels and the 85 version, with its 82kWh battery and official range in the region of 350 miles, depending on the trim level.
Lower-powered variants with commensurate price points are available, and P11Ds start at £31,445 for the Elroq SE 50 with a 55kWh battery and an official 233-mile range. It’s followed by the SEL, with a 63kWh battery and Edition and Sportline trims, with each available with either a 63kWh or an 82kWh battery. The range is topped off by the Elroq vRS, which has an 84kWh battery and 340hp.
The Sportline 85 version, tested here, builds on the three lower trim levels with the likes of 20-inch black alloy wheels, LED matrix beam headlights, an electric tailgate and a series of interior and exterior styling tweaks.

Is The Skoda Skoda Elroq Suitable For My Fleet
Absolutely. It’s an EV, which obviously means the lowest possible 3% BIK and, if you want the biggest 82kWh battery at the lowest price, go for the Edition 85, the P11D for which is £38,595 – £2,950 less than the Sportline 85 tested here.
Chinese new entrants continue to hit the market with gusto, and, at the time of writing, many were lowering the price of their cars – lots of which are electric C-SUVs – in response to the new plug-in car grant for retail customers. We would never instruct fleets to avoid them, chiefly because there are some good options and the brands are keen to do business, which is more than can be said for some established manufacturers. However, fleets have told us that reliable parts supply and a longstanding dealer network count when it comes to serviceability and vehicle uptime, and Skoda ticks that box in a bigger way than a lot of new entrants. We are spoiled for choice of medium-sized electric SUVs, but if a reliable establishment option is of interest, then you could do much worse than the Elroq.

Leasing A Skoda Skoda Elroq
At the time of writing, Gateway2lease was offering the Skoda Elroq 85 Sportline for £339 a month on a 3+36 contract with 10,000 miles a year and nine months’ rental up front. Gensen Reports forecasts monthly maintenance bills of £40 and Class 1A NIC comes in at £18 a month.

Driving A Skoda Elroq
The 82kWh battery has a hefty 545Nm of torque and 286hp, rendering the Elroq good for 0-62mph in 6.6 seconds. That means the jackrabbit EV acceleration is there if you want it, but, as with many electric cars seeking a broad appeal, the delivery is a little more muted and refined than that of some of the snappier early attempts.
The Elroq is very much middle of the road to drive. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with it and it does the job it was designed to do perfectly well but, as with many a C-SUV, its strength is its breadth of appeal, not its dynamics. It’s quiet, comfortable – if a smidgen on the bumpy side on 20-inch wheels – and goes where you point it. It isn’t especially exciting, but it’s not supposed to be.
A 470-litre boot and decent rear legroom equals the usual Skoda offering of a greater-than-average amount of space for the class.
We’d go for the Edition trim level over the Sportline but keep the 82kWh battery, and that’s less down to economics than to practicality and comfort. The Sportline is more of a styling trim level, and many of the features it adds over and above the Edition are aesthetic, while we’d bet the latter has a marginally better ride on 19-inch wheels.
If dropping a trim level leaves enough headroom on the choice list to add the Advanced package (head-up display, Canton sound system, electric drivers seat with massage function and more) and/or the Plus package (LED matrix headlights, rear LED lights with animated indicators, electric boot with virtual pedal and rear side airbags), then we reckon that’s the way to play it.

FleetandLeasing.com Verdict On The Skoda Elroq
Not the most thrilling SUV on the block, but a great do-all EV in an overcrowded segment.
