Say hello to…
…the Renault 4, sister car to the popular and award-winning Renault 5. The 4 is still a retro-styled yet ultra-modern all-electric five-door supermini, but is larger and more practical than the 5. Available with two battery packs, either 40kWh or 52kWh, and these are linked respectively to two power outputs, 120hp or 150hp.
Like the 5, the maximum charging speed also differs between the two versions at 80kW and 100kW, again, respectively.
The official range for each version is 192 miles and 250 miles.
Renault is offering the front-drive small SUV in three trim levels:
- Evolution
- Techno
- Iconic
Standard equipment on the Evolution includes 18-inch alloys, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 10-inch infotainment screen, 2 USB sockets, rear parking sensors, heat pump, climate control and vehicle-to-grid capability.
Techno adds privacy glass, uprated stereo, rear view camera, drive modes and ambient lighting.
Iconic adds heated front seats, heated steering wheel, LED headlights and synthetic leather upholstery.

Is The Renault 4 Suitable For My Fleet
As the slightly larger sibling to the Renault 5, the 4 is arguably the more suitable of the pair. Rear legroom is still compromised for adults, especially if there’s a taller driver. However, the boot’s a good size at 420 litres and the Renault 4 is at its core incredibly easy to use.

Leasing A Renault 4
Gateway2lease is offering the Renault 4 in Iconic trim for £256 per month on a 3+36 contract with 10,000 miles a year. Maintenance costs are forecast at £30 a month, according to Gensen Reports. The Class 1A NIC is £16 a month.

Driving A Renault 4
The Renault 4 might play second fiddle to the more headline-grabbing Renault 5, but from behind the wheel it quickly makes a strong case for itself as the more rounded, usable choice.
It’s immediately approachable. Everything about the way it drives feels intuitive and undemanding, making it an easy car to get along with from the first mile. The driving position is slightly higher than the R5, which pays dividends in everyday use, giving a clearer view of the road and making urban driving feel more relaxed.
On the move, the Renault 4 strikes a pleasing balance between comfort and control. There’s a touch more compliance in the suspension than its sibling, which helps it deal with poorer road surfaces more effectively, without sacrificing composure. The steering is light but accurate, reinforcing the car’s easy-going character.
It’s not perfect; there are a couple of small irritations. The front-mounted charge port can be awkward in daily use, often requiring you to reverse out of a parking space after accessing a charger. Visibility is also slightly compromised by a thick A-pillar, which can obscure your view at tighter junctions.
That said, the Renault 4 has charm in abundance. The customisable ‘Perso’ button is a genuinely useful touch, allowing quick access to preferred settings such as disabling the unwanted ADAS alerts, while the playful ‘winking’ headlights when you unlock the car add a bit of personality.
In short, it’s a likeable, well-judged EV that prioritises ease and comfort over outright flair.
