Say hello to…
…the all-electric version of the new Porsche Macan which sits in the mid-size family SUV sector. In dimensions terms, it’s a rival to the likes of BMW’s iX3 and Audi’s Q6 etron. However, the Porsche Macan is much more driver-focussed and sits a level above, in terms of prestige.
Four trim levels linked to power output and drivetrain are available:
- Electric
- 4 Electric
- 4S Electric
- Turbo Electric
Standard equipment on the entry level Electric includes 20-inch alloys, LED headlights, powered front seats, wireless phone charging, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, heat pump, twin-zone climate control, cruise control and 40:20:40 split-fold rear seats. The entry point has a 95kWh battery and a 360hp motor that drives the rear wheels.
4 Electric adds all-wheel drive and power increases to 408hp.
4S Electric sees power up to 448hp plus adds active suspension.
Turbo Electric adds heated steering wheel, 18-way powered front sports seats, uprated sound system and sees power rise to 584hp.

Is The Porsche Macan Suitable For My Fleet
Porsche has ticked all the right boxes for fleet with the Macan Electric. It has a decent 95kWh battery, a heat pump is standard and charging speeds are brilliant at 270kW maximum, which represents best-in-class. What’s more the boot is an impressive 540 litres, plus there’s a very handy front boot for charging cables. All this makes for a very capable long distance electric car. And on top of all this, you get the inherent desirability of the Porsche brand which should translate to strong residual values.

Leasing A Porsche Macan
Gateway2lease is offering the Macan Electric for a very respectable £768 a month on a 9+36 contract with 10,000 miles a year. Gensen Report forecasts maintenance costs of £41 a month, while Class 1A NIC comes in at £209 a month.

Driving A Porsche Macan
Sometimes a car can surprise you. Either by being better than expected or worse than expected. But in the Porsche Macan Electric’s case, it’s for being more simple than expected.
Yes, the Macan is a great car to drive, with weighty steering that provides fantastic turn-in when cornering, responsive acceleration for safer overtaking and great body control. The quality of the interior fit and finish is amazing too. But these are expected, it is, after all, a Porsche.
What’s surprising is how, in a world where electric SUVs have become ever more complex and loaded with technology, the Macan is simple and easy to use every day.
You feel at home instantly. Turning off the mandated warnings for speed and lane keeping is a doddle. Want to change the drive modes? There’s a knob for that. Want to change the cabin temperature? There’s a switch for that too.
Even using the infotainment system is logical and quick.
While all cars should be all of these things, few are.
As well as being quick and fun to drive, even in ‘entry’ trim, the Macan Electric is also impressively efficient.
With no thought for eco-driving and plenty of motorway miles, we saw 3.3 miles per kWh which, with the 95kWh battery means a real-world range of 313 miles.
Is it perfect? Nearly. We’d hoped for greater motorway refinement – mostly in the form of road noise, but this could be due to the optional 21-inch alloys, rather than the standard 20s. And the most minor of niggles; the USB socket is really tucked out of the way and difficult to reach in the centre console. But once your lead is in, you’d not have to do it again.
It’s surprisingly rare to find a mid-size SUV that’s as easy to use. The fact it’s also a Porsche with all the inherent brand qualities is doubly wonderful.
