Say hello to…
…the Peugeot e308 SW, the all-electric version of the 308 estate. New at the start of the year, the e308 is powered by a 156hp motor supplied by a battery with a useable capacity of 50.8kW and has an official range of 254 miles. The e308 is one of the few BEV estate cars on the market and goes up against the MG5 and sister car the Vauxhall Astra estate.
The EV estate is available in two trim levels:
- Allure
- GT
Standard equipment on the Allure trim level includes cruise control, powered front and rear windows, 19-inch infotainment touchscreen, drive modes, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, 18-inch alloys, climate control, heated steering wheel, reversing camera, heated front seats, 4x USB sockets, satnav and high beam assist.
GT specification adds adaptive cruise control with stop and go, sport pack and full LED matrix headlights.
Is The Peugeot e308 SW Suitable For My Fleet
Having an estate in the e308 line-up is great for fleets that need this type of vehicle. The boot space is a very respectable at 548 litres and there’s even enough room under the boot floor to store the charge cables. While the battery capacity is ‘only’ just over 50kWh, the 308 has a decent claimed range of more than 250 miles. However, the maximum recharging speed is at the lower end of competitiveness at 100kW.
Leasing A Peugeot e308 SW
Intelligent Car Leasing is offering the e308 SW in GT trim for £612 a month on a 3+36 contract with 20,000 miles a year. Gensen Reports forecasts maintenance at £50 a month, while Class 1A NIC comes in at £12 a month.
Driving A Peugeot e308 SW
Peugeot is very much on form with the e308 SW for its fit with fleet and company car driver needs. We’ve already covered off the practicality side of the 308 estate, but beyond this, both trim levels are very well equipped as standard.
The cabin is a comfortable and interesting place to cover miles. The seats are supportive, the materials used in the construction feel premium with harder plastics banished to less obvious areas. The ‘over the steering wheel’ view of the instrument cluster common to the current generation of Peugeots works well and the instruments themselves are clear.
Peugeot’s infotainment system is simple to use and has the great feature of being able to ‘favourite’ the controls for speed warning and lane keeping, making them faster to turn off – which you’ll want to do for every journey.
On the road, the e308 SW is wonderfully comfortable without any obvious compromise to the car’s handling at every day speeds. Peugeot has got the balance between fun and comfort spot on for a car of this type.
The brakes and regeneration function feels totally ‘normal’ and progressive. Peugeot doesn’t offer one-pedal driving, but there is a ‘B’ mode for additional regen.
However, probably the most impressive feature of the e308 is the efficiency. While we didn’t achieve the claimed range of 254 miles, we recorded an efficiency figure of 4.2 miles per kWh over a week of mixed driving, which means a real-world range of 213 miles.
Drivers will have to learn to decouple ultimate range with efficiency for EVs. In the case of the e308, yes, the range isn’t that impressive, but the cost per mile savings if you’re charging on the public network will be significant against a less efficient car with, perhaps, a larger battery and better range.
