Say hello to…
…the MG S6, currently, the largest and most expensive SUV in the Chinese brand’s standard line-up before you get to the new, more luxurious, IM sub-brand cars. The D-segment S6 is the same size as an Omoda 9, or a Skoda Kodiaq. However, the S6 is only a five seater.
There are two trim levels which also see a variance in battery and drivetrain. The SE and Trophy cars in Long Range form are rear drive both with 244hp motors. The Trophy Dual Motor is all-wheel drive with power up to 361hp. All three have a 74.3kWh usable capacity battery.
- SE Long Range
- Trophy Long Range
- Trophy Dual Motor
Standard equipment on the SE includes adaptive cruise control, auto high beam, blind spot warning, LED headlights, rear parking sensors, rear privacy glass, powered door mirrors, 19-inch alloys, fabric upholstery, heated front seats, heated steering wheel, vehicle to load, keyless entry, drive modes, reversing camera and satnav.
Trophy Long Range adds front parking sensors, power fold door mirrors with memory, 20-inch alloys, leather-style upholstery, powered driver’s seat with memory, powered passenger seat, auto dimming rear view mirror, powered tailgate, panoramic glass roof, heated rear seats, uprated stereo, head up display, 360-degree parking camera and an EV trip planner.

Is The MG S6 Suitable For My Fleet
The MG S6 is a usefully large car. The boot is a very impressive 674 litres and there’s also a huge 102 litre frunk; more than large enough for charging cables.
Rear passengers also have a lots of room, but with the front seat in its lowest position, rear seat occupants can’t fit their feet under the front seat. This, coupled to a high floor means a, less-than-ideal, knees bent position.
The WLTP official range is just over 300 miles, which is good, but the real-world figure looks likely to be below this. If there’s a greater weakness in a car this size (and price) it’s the maximum charge speed of just 144kW. A few years ago this would have been perfectly acceptable, but rivals now charge more quickly.

Leasing An MG S6
Gateway2lease is offering the MG S6 on a 9+36 contract for £658 a month with 10,000 miles a year.

Driving An MG S6
Equipment levels in the MG S6 are impressive, as is the fit and finish of the interior. Material qualities are good, bordering on premium, with plenty of soft-touch surfaces. You have to go looking in the less obvious areas to find harder plastics. MG has struck a good balance between controls that are in the based within the infotainment screen and physical buttons. Helpfully there’s buttons for temperature, volume and the ‘home’ function. It’s also easy to disable the lane-keeping and speed warnings through MG’s Pilot preset.
Visibility is decent and you sit high up to give a good view out. However, taller drivers may find the centre console can rub on your left knee.
On the move, the MG’s good but not great. Comfort levels are decent enough while the body’s well controlled through the corners. However, the steering’s vague around straight ahead. But while we’re on steering, the turning circle is very good for a car this size.
On the motorway, there’s a fair amount of noise intrusion both wind noise around the A-pillar and from the tyres.
Overall, the MG S6 is attractive if you’re mainly sticking locally, but there are better long-distance options.

A big and practical SUV, just not best-in-class for the driving experience.
