Say hello to…
…the MG 4 which has been given an extensive mid-life update. As well as improving the looks, interior quality and equipment, excluding the hot Xpower version, the MG4 now has two new battery options each offered in a single trim level.
The entry point is a 64kWh battery (dubbed Long Range because that’s what it was in the previous version – the smaller 51kWh standard range battery is no longer available), the Extended Range version features a 77kWh battery. Official ranges are 280 and 338 miles respectively and power outputs are 190hp and 245hp respectively.
The single trim level is dubbed Premium and includes as standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 360-degree camera, wireless charging, climate control, heated seats, adaptive cruise control, 18-inch alloys, powered driver’s seat adjust and heated steering wheel.

Is The MG 4 Suitable For My Fleet
The MG 4 is a hugely suitable car for fleets. It’s a five-door fully-electric hatchback with a competitive P11D value. It’s efficient too, the 77kWh battery version we drove returned 3.3 miles per kWh which would result in a real-world range of 254 miles.

Leasing An MG 4
The MG 4 is so new, that not even MG yet has a monthly lease on offer. However, it’s list price will start at £29,995 for the LR version rising to £32,995 for the LR model.

Driving An MG 4
There wasn’t a lot to fix with the MG 4, it was a car that sold well, won awards and we liked a lot on FleetandLeasing.com.
However, MG has both listened to criticism and looked at what the competition is now offering since the MG 4 first went on sale four years ago.
The basic styling of the car is the same, not bad thing, but jump inside and you’re immediately greeted by a cabin that’s built from far higher quality materials.
On top of this the infotainment system is now the latest MG operating system which means its super-simple to use, fast to respond and easy to deactivate the ADAS systems. MG has also kept key functions such as aircon and stereo volume as physical buttons.
And as an added bonus, MG has listened to driver feedback and fitted a rear wiper.
The driving experience is still good, no doubt helped by the fact the car’s rear-drive. However, we found the car felt a touch light and floaty at motorway speeds. Rivals feel more planted and less susceptible to cross winds.
There are different drive modes, but none seems to add enough weight to the steering which could solve this issue.
Overall the ride is comfortable but it can thump over more broken road surfaces. Refinement is good too with minimal wind or tyre noise on the motorway.
If there’s one issue we hope MG fixes with the next (probably all-new) MG 4, that would be rear visibility. Due to the sloping rear roofline and the rear seat headrests, there’s not a great view in the mirror.
These issues wouldn’t, however, stop us recommending the updated MG 4.
