Say hello to…
…the Mercedes EQS an all-electric luxury saloon that sits alongside the ICE-powered S-class. Mercedes offers two battery sizes, 96kWh and 118kWh, two power outputs, 292hp and 360hp and offers the EQS in rear or 4Matic all-wheel drive. This means a range of between 379 and 480 miles.
There are three trim levels:
- AMG Line Premium
- AMG Line Premium Plus
- Business Class
Standard equipment on the AMG Line Premium includes adaptive high beam headlights, 360-degree camera, park assist, climate control, panoramic sunroof, 21-inch alloys, sports seats, satnav, powered boot lid, powered memory driver’s seat, heat pump, heated front seats, heated rear seats, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, USB ports, wireless phone charging, adaptive suspension, rear wheel steering and connected services.
AMG Line Premium Plus adds a Burmester sound system.
Business Class adds 22-inch alloys, luxury front head rests, heated windscreen and heated steering wheel.

Is The Mercedes EQS Suitable For My Fleet
Chauffeur fleets and chief executives will be the core market for the EQS. The level of luxury is unquestionable; the seats are both soft and supportive and adjustable in many, many ways to make sure comfort levels are first class.
There’s also a huge boot at 620 litres to carry any luggage.
Charge speeds are also good with a DC maximum of 200kW, enough to provide a 10-80% top up in 31 mins.
The looks, updated last year, are, as they should be, understated.

Leasing A Mercedes EQS
Mercedes is offering the EQS 450+ Business Class for £1,335 a month on a 9+47 contract with 10,000 miles a year. Gensen Reports forecasts monthly maintenance at £54, while Class 1A NIC comes in at £48.

Driving A Mercedes EQS
With a list price of well in excess of £100,000, the EQS needs to be very close to perfect.
For the most part, it is. The looks are classy and understated, the technology is incredibly impressive and the quality of the materials and construction is luxurious. However, to cross off the one area where the EQS isn’t perfect, in Business Class specification the ride comfort falls just short of perfection. We single out Business Class because it comes with 22-inch alloy wheels, which despite the car’s air suspension, mean the ride comfort over imperfections such as potholes can be felt more than they should and rivals such as a Range Rover are more comfortable. We suspect the solution is to opt for the AMG Line trim levels which are fitted with 21-inch alloys as standard.
This small point out of the way, everything else is brilliant.
For starters, the EQS is highly efficient for a car weighing more than 2.7 tonnes. We saw 3.1 miles per kWh over 300 miles of mixed driving – including a good proportion of motorway work. This would equate to a real-world range of 365 miles, which is more than enough. And we have no doubt that if you put any effort into driving economically, you’d see a 400 mile range.
Refinement in electric cars is almost a given – there’s no petrol or diesel engine to add noise and vibration – but the EQS takes ‘quiet’ to a new level. It’s most noticeable when you shut the door in a noisy environment and total silence and serenity descends on the cabin and its occupants.
At 5.2m in length, you’d expect the EQS to be tricky to park or manoeuvre at city speeds. However, the big Mercedes is fitted with rear-wheel steering that is a thing of wonder. In fact, it’s so good at reducing the turning circle that, in a good way, you have to readjust the way you think about judging parking spaces.
The infotainment system is also impressive. Not only is the display large, fast and clear, it’s also very easy to use and turning off the warning sounds is a matter of three presses.
Pick an AMG Line version and the Mercedes EQS is worth every Penny of its impressive list price.
