Say hello to…
…the Hyundai i20, a refreshingly normal supermini. With a growing number of car manufacturers quitting the old-school hatchback market in favour of small SUVs and crossovers it’s great to see Hyundai sticking with the segment that used to be the most popular in the UK.
You can have the new i20 as an automatic or a manual but both come with a 1.0-litre 100hp petrol engine.
Hyundai offers the latest i20 in three trim levels:
- Advance
- Premium
- Ultimate
Standard kit on the Advance trim level includes 16-inch alloys, cruise control, rear parking sensors, 8-inch infotainment screen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Premium adds 17-inch alloys, heated front seats, climate control, front parking sensors and 10.25-inch infotainment screen with satnav.
Ultimate adds glass sunroof, blind spot warning, wireless phone charging, uprated sound system and keyless entry and start.
Is The Hyundai i20 Suitable For My Fleet
Without an all-electric or PHEV version the i20 is for those after a petrol supermini with a low CO2 figure. This comes in at 125g/km which means it sits in the 30% tax band. Hyundai’s i20 also offers fleets first-rate reliability with decent space inside.
Leasing A Hyundai i20
Intelligent Car Leasing is offering the i20 with a manual gearbox in the top Ultimate specification for £306 a month on a 3+36 contract with 10,000 miles a year.
Gensen Reports forecasts maintenance will be £32 a month on the same basis. However, because the i20 is a petrol, the Class 1A NIC sits at £67 a month.
Driving A Hyundai i20
Hyundai’s i20 has always been a good car, but the latest version with new styling, upgraded equipment and a boost to efficiency have made it even better.
The new sharper design keeps the car looking sporty and helps residual values.
Inside the cabin feels modern and from a sector-above in terms of kit and design.
Hyundai’s infotainment system is logical and quick to fire up, which means its relatively easy to turn off the lane keeping and speed limit warnings.
However, it’s the way the i20 drives that secures the biggest vote.
Without ever feeling uncomfortable or hard riding, the i20 is an exceedingly fun car to drive. It’s nippier than the 0-60mph time of 10.5 seconds suggests. Every journey, short or long, town or B-road, makes you feel good about the car thanks partly to the steering, but a lot has to do with a lovely gearchange that’s light and precise.
In terms of the car’s practicalities, there’s decent rear leg room for taller kids and plenty of head room. The boot, at 352 litres, is a good size for a car in this class.
If there’s any negatives, its that the standard digital dashboard display isn’t as clear as it could be – particularly at night – thanks to a silver backdrop. However, there is a solution, select Sport mode and the graphics change to black and red, which is much clearer.
The overall result for the i20 is that it’s probably FleetandLeasing.com’s favourite supermini.
