Say hello to…
…the Ford Ranger Wildtrak double-cab pickup, a commercial vehicle that can do it all, thanks to a 1,057kg gross payload, all-wheel drive with low ratio, a powerful 3.0-litre diesel engine producing 240hp and 600Nm of torque which means it’s also capable of towing a braked trailer up to 3,500kg.
In Wildtrak form the standard equipment includes 18-inch alloys, LED headlights, front fog lights, power-fold mirrors, 12-inch infotainment screen, satnav, powered driver’s seat, heated front seats, heated leather steering wheel, dual zone aircon, privacy glass, roof rails and cruise control.
Is The Ford Ranger Wildtrak Suitable For My Fleet
If you need a pick-up and you need to tow or regularly carry heavier loads, then the Ranger Wildtrak ticks a lot of boxes. The 3.0-litre diesel engine isn’t particularly efficient with an official 27.7mpg rating, but we saw better at 28.7mpg over mixed driving. For those after more efficiency there’s also a 2.0-litre diesel available.
There’s also plenty of room in the cabin to seat four or five adults without any compromise on leg room.

Driving A Ford Ranger Wildtrak
Double-cab pick-ups have to do it all. Not only have they got to be tough, work-proof commercial vehicles that can go anywhere or carry anything, but they also have to act as family transport too for small business owners.
And those with a decent budget – let’s not skirt around the Ranger’s list price (ex-VAT) of just over £45,000 – the Wildtrak offers all of the above qualities.
What’s also important to small business owners at this price is that as well as offering all the capabilities that are required, their work and life vehicle needs to go the extra mile.
In the Ranger’s case there are three main standout points. Firstly, it looks brilliant. At FleetandLeasing.com we don’t typically talk about styling because for most business purchases it’s all about the head rather than the heart. However, Ford’s ‘built tough’ strapline clearly extends to the styling. It looks the part and this not only is attractive to the new LCV buyer, but it also helps with residual values too.
Secondly, the interior with a large infotainment screen, which hooks up to Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, plus the leather seats give a car-like feeling.
Thirdly, and the point that most impresses, is the refinement of the 3.0-litre diesel engine. At both low and high speeds it’s quieter in the cabin than some diesels in quality brand cars.
The auto’ box liked to the 3.0-litre diesel is also smooth and the combination with the torquey engine means the Ranger is easy to drive and plenty quick enough too.
Ride is good for a pick-up, which means there’s some joggle over lower speed bumps – particularly when unladen – but this calms down substantially at motorway speeds.
Visibility is excellent, and while the Ranger feels large from the driving seat, it’s actually easy to thread down very narrow lanes because the corners are easy to judge.
If there are any negatives, then the gear lever is slightly tricky to use as the park-release button isn’t easy to press thanks to the square shape of the lever.
We also found the adaptive cruise control to struggle to identify vehicles ahead and twice had to intervene to stop it running into the car in front.
These two small points aside, the Ranger proves itself to do exactly what it should for business users.
