Say hello to…
…the Audi A6 e-tron Avant, the all-electric version of the new A6 estate. The A6 E-tron is offered with a choice of two battery sizes; 76kWh and 95kWh. The 76kWh battery is coupled to a 286hp motor and the rear-drive A6 is capable of 346 miles of range. The 95kWh battery is available as either rear- or all-wheel drive with 367hp or 428hp respectively, with official ranges of 419 miles and 400 miles respectively.
Audi offers three trim levels on the A6 e-tron estate:
- Sport
- S-line
- Launch Edition
Standard equipment on the Sport includes 20-inch alloys, dynamic suspension, drive modes, high beam assist, headlight cleaning, leather upholstery, 3-zone climate control, 14.5-inch infotainment screen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, wireless phone charging, satnav, adaptive cruise control, surround view cameras and park assist.
S-line adds privacy glass, front sports seats, S-line body kit and sports steering wheel.
Launch Edition adds 21-inch alloys, matric LED headlights, black trim, red brake calipers, powered front seats, heated front and rear seats, uprated stereo, heated steering wheel and uprated cruise control.

Is The Audi A6 Avant E-tron Suitable For My Fleet
A 400 mile-plus range with the larger battery is what higher mileage drivers will want. Audi also matches the battery with seriously fast charging speeds; 270kW maximum. This means it won’t be the charging that dictates the length of a stop on a long journey.
Being an estate means there’s decent (if not amazing) boot space at 502 litres. We suspect it would be more if weren’t for the underfloor batteries and motor.

Leasing An Audi A6 Avant E-tron
Gateway2lease is offering the Audi A6 E-tron Avant in Launch Edition trim with the bigger battery for £994 a month on a 3+36 contract with 10,000 miles a year. Gensen Reports forecasts monthly maintenance costs of £51. The Class 1A NIC comes in at £32 a month.

Driving An Audi A6 Avant E-tron
If you’re used to previous generations of Audi A6 Avants, then one of the first things that you’ll realise is that the latest A6 is taller than any of the previous models. It’s not by much, about 30-50mm depending on suspension mode, but it’s enough to notice that you don’t sit as low as before due to the battery pack hidden in the floor of the car.
While this means the car doesn’t look quite as sleek as before, interestingly it does make it easier to get in and out of as the driver’s seat is just that bit further off the ground.
The A6 cabin is impressively well constructed, as all Audis are, however, there are a few places both hidden and in sight were the materials quality isn’t quite as high as you’d expect from a car in this class. The steering wheel centre particularly looks and feels cheaper than it should. The lower part of the centre section of the console also uses lower grade plastics.
These are small issues. And the A6 wins back points by offering fantastic rear passenger room.
Set off in the A6 and as you’d expect, refinement is impressive and the overall experience is one of relaxation on a long journey. The A6 E-tron makes motorway life less tiring. Both on the motorway and on fast, twisty roads the A6 feels well planted, stable and able to handle the shove from the electric motor without any fuss.
Comfort levels are good too.
The real-world range is good too, while weren’t hitting the 400-plus of the official figure, we were on track for 350 motorway miles from the 95kWh battery.
The only time when driving the A6 that stress levels rise is at manoeuvering speeds. Our test car was fitted with optional digital door ‘mirrors’; screens instead of a simple glass mirror. These just don’t work as well as a traditional door mirror because they make judging distances difficult, suffer from sun glare and don’t have enough contrast to the display.
Couple this option to the slightly grabby brakes and parking isn’t a smooth and simple process.
Interestingly, the A6’s reversing camera also suffers from lag, in other words there’s a fraction of a second delay between what you’re doing and what you’re seeing. It’s noticeable that after you’ve stopped moving physically, the car looks like it’s still going backwards on the reversing screen. You do get used to this.
It’s these few points that take the A6 E-tron from class leading to ‘just’ very good.
