THE Polestar performance brand has confirmed plans to launch a new model in each of the next three years, kicking off with the teased Polestar 3 in 2022 (pictured).
Displayed in camouflage at a presentation for Polestar’s investors and the press in New York, the Polestar 3 is a large, all-electric SUV that will sit above the Polestar 2 in the line-up.
The American presence was down to the announcement that the 3 will be built alongside the new Volvo XC90 at the group’s Charleston factory in South Carolina.
As Volvo’s electrified performance brand, Polestar has quickly established itself in the market, but the Swedish firm has plans to continue that rapid growth and expand its appeal further to SME fleets and company car drivers.
Currently available in 14 markets worldwide, Polestar plans to expand that number to at least 30 markets by the end of 2023. Aims are for sales to expand from the 29,000 units sold in 2021 to 290,000 models by 2025.
Details on the Polestar 3 are currently light, but it is expected that the SUV will follow the same structure as the Polestar 2. That should see a choice of battery sizes and motor options, with two- or all-wheel drive variants available.
