FORD’S E-Transit Custom has been revealed, ahead of its launch next year. The new eLCV boasts a range of up to 236 miles on a charge, and is the first of four new all-electric Ford Pro models arriving by 2024.
Although currently available as a range-extended PHEV, the new E-Transit Custom will be the first pure-electric version of what is Europe’s best-selling van, and the UK’s best-selling vehicle.
The range of considerably more than 200 miles is complemented by DC fast charging capability, for quick top-ups out on the road.
Precise technical specifications are yet to be revealed, but the new E-Transit Custom has been designed from the ground up to incorporate electrical components.
There is a chance that it will have some crossover with the recently released E-Transit, which has a 68kWh battery and choice of two motors – 135kW or 198kW. It may well get a smaller battery option for a lower price point and lower range, but these details will be confirmed in autumn later this year.
What has been confirmed is Ford’s ProPower Onboard, a vehicle-to-load (V2L) system that allows users to plug in devices using a conventional three-pin plug, drawing from what then becomes a huge, drivable battery pack.
The E-Transit Custom will of course form the basis for the E-Tourneo Custom people-carrier, which will be built on the same platform, and is also due to arrive in pure-electric form next year.
