THE Association of Fleet Professionals (AFP) is undertaking a benchmarking exercise to establish a true depiction of SMR (Service, Maintenance and Repair) costs when electric vehicles (EV) are compared with their internal combustion engine (ICE) counterparts.
The received opinion to date has been that EVs are, in all likelihood, cheaper. This is because there are fewer moving parts. There is no engine oil that needs changing, for example.
However, the AFP says that information is incomplete or inconsistent and plans to provide a more conclusive guide that can be used by SME fleets for fleet budgeting purposes.
Paul Hollick, Chair at the AFP, commenting about the SMR exercise, said:
Paul added that now was an appropriate time to start properly considering the issue since a comparatively large volume of SMR EV data was beginning to bebecome available.
