GEELY-owned EV manufacturer Zeekr Technology Europe is set to revolutionise charging infrastructure through a groundbreaking collaboration with Minima, the decentralised blockchain platform.
This partnership claims to tackle the critical issue of charging accessibility, a key barrier to wider EV adoption, by leveraging blockchain technology to create a community-driven charging network.
With the global push for electric vehicles, the demand for robust charging infrastructure is surging, but while infrastructure is building in the UK, its distribution remains uneven.
However, Zeekr says its partnership with Minima offers a solution that empowers EV owners and maximises existing resources.
Addressing the Charging Gap
A recent report from petrochemical business Shell revealed that 49% of potential EV adopters are deterred by concerns over charge point availability. Zeekr and Minima’s innovative solution directly addresses this challenge by enabling Zeekr wallbox owners to monetise their charging stations. Through Minima’s blockchain integration, these wallboxes can be made available for booking by other Zeekr drivers, creating a seamless and accessible charging network.
How It Works: Secure and Seamless Access
The system operates using secure access control tokens generated through Minima’s blockchain. When a Zeekr driver books a charging session, a unique digital key is issued, verifying their identity and granting access to the designated wallbox. This ensures secure and authorised charging, with the allocated kWh protected throughout the process.
Offline Functionality: A Game-Changer
One of the most compelling aspects of this partnership is the system’s offline capability. Leveraging Minima’s decentralised blockchain, transactions can proceed securely even in the event of connectivity outages. This is achieved through local connectivity options like Bluetooth, ensuring uninterrupted charging regardless of network availability.
“Together with Zeekr, we are showcasing how blockchain and community-driven solutions can address real-world challenges, delivering greater flexibility, security, and convenience to the EV ecosystem,” stated Hugo Feiler, co-founder and CEO of Minima.
A New Standard for EV Charging
This collaboration between Zeekr and Minima sets a new benchmark for EV charging infrastructure. By combining the security and transparency of blockchain with the convenience of community-driven charging, they are paving the way for a more accessible and reliable EV future. This initiative demonstrates the potential of innovative technology to overcome infrastructure challenges and accelerate the transition to sustainable mobility.
