- The Electric Car Scheme to offer 6,000 miles of free charging with specialist OVO Charge Anytime offering for cheaper home charging
- OVO’s Charge Anytime add-on provides customers with EV charging at just 7p per kWh – around 2p per mile
SALARY sacrifice provider The Electric Car Scheme is partnering with OVO with an offer to make EV driving cheaper and making the switch to electric cars more appealing.
The partnership with OVO initially offers both new and existing customers of The Electric Car Scheme 6,000 miles worth of free charging, followed by access to OVO’s Charge Anytime specialist EV tariff add-on. The EV tariff add-on enables users with a smart meter and home EV charger to charge their electric vehicle (EV) at a special rate of 7p/kWh, which equates to around 2p per mile.
According to analysis from The Electric Car Scheme, the cost of running a petrol equivalent exceeded the yearly charging costs for an average EV driver in the UK on around 15 July 15 this year, based on the driver paying the standard variable rate for their electricity.
But with EV charging via Charge Anytime at the rate of 7p/kWh their charging costs would become cheaper even sooner, more like mid-February due to the significantly cheaper electricity costs.
While affordability remains the biggest barrier for people to switch to an EV (68% of respondents in The Electric Car Scheme’s Affording Sustainability report highlighting it as a concern), the cost of running an EV also remains a barrier (34% see it as a barrier).
CEO of The Electric Car Scheme, Thom Groot commented:
This partnership offers our customers nearly a year’s worth of free driving, followed by some of the most competitive charging costs available on the market. This is another step in making an EV the obvious choice for anyone looking for their next car and thinking about making the green choice.
