MERCEDES wants to put an end to driver range anxiety. And it wants to do it in style.
The Mercedes VISION EQXX was shown at online event replacing the company’s appearance at the CES show in Las Vegas. It headlined with an astonishing range of 1000kms on a charge – which, to be fair, sounds rather better than the more prosaic 620 miles imperial equivalent. Nevertheless, we’ll take an EV with a 620 mile range…
“We will build the world’s most desirable electric cars,” said Ola Källenius, Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler AG and Mercedes-Benz AG on unveiling the car.
Efficiency has been the byword in the creation of this stylish range-beater, using F1-derived technology to ensure maximum efficiency from design through to drivetrain.
The battery packs in remarkable density with just under 100 kWh of usable energy within the compact dimensions of the VISION EQXX prototype. There are even solar panels to add an additional 16 miles of range.
While it remains a prototype, several elements demonstrated on the show car will be encapsulated within new Mercedes models over the next 18 months.
Markus Schäfer, Member of the Board of Management of Daimler AG and Mercedes-Benz AG, Chief Technology Officer responsible for Development and Procurement added:
As a halo car, the VISION EQXX firmly establishes Mercedes-Benz as the brand that pairs luxury with technology in the automotive world and beyond.
