USING excel for fleet management is no longer hacking it as working from home changes the dynamics of what’s required from fleet managers.
Wiltshire-based FleetCheck says it has taken on a new customer every day since the summer with demand for its fleet management software rising.
The company says the coronavirus pandemic has changed the shape of fleet management thanks to home working.
If you have a small fleet department based in the same location or even the same room, it’s potentially possible to employ paper or spreadsheets for basic data handling, even if those methods have fundamental limitations in terms of their effectiveness.
However, when that department has been scattered across a number of places, probably working from home, it becomes next to impossible and some kind of online solution is the only answer, hence the increased interest in fleet management software.
Peter Golding, managing director, FleetCheck
Golding added he had seen increased demand for the driver walkaround app, offering remote and auditable safety checks.
Similarly, for commercial vehicle fleets with O licences Golding said the fleet management software was capable of handling Preventative Maintenance Inspections.
Golding continued:
Fleets need to have data accessible online by different people working from remote locations, something that isn’t possible if you are using paper-based systems or even spreadsheets.
